To save a file in MS applications press Control + S.
The first time you use Control + S on a new file, it will let you enter a filename and then saves your file to the default place (usually OneDrive or Documents).
Alternatively, F12 opens a Save dialogue and gives more control over where and how the file is being saved. You can still give it a filename, but you can Tab around this dialogue to check where it is saving to.
Once the file is saved, then Control + S is great to quickly save the changes.
