Paragraph alignment refers to how the text lines up against the margins on the pages of a document. There are four types of alignment:
- Left – Text lines up straight against the left side edge of the page. This is the default setting.
- Right – Text lines up straight against the right side edge of the page, generally used for the address on a letter.
- Centre – The middle of a line of text is positioned in the horizontal centre of the page, generally used for headings.
- Justified – Text lines up straight against both side edges of the page, generally used for news articles. Justified text has extra space between words to achieve this alignment.
