In Microsoft applications, F12 is used to save a file with options to change filename, file location and/or file type (this function is commonly called Save As).
Also in Microsoft Applications, Control + F12 shows the Open dialogue and Control + Shift + F12 opens the Print page. Although you probably would use Control + O for Open and Control + P for Print! Easier to remember!?
Another use of F12 is in Web browsers, where it opens the debug panel which shows the HTML code for the current Web page.
