Closing Microsoft Word

To close a Word document, press Control + W or Control + F4.
This just closes the document, but leaves the Word app open.
To close the application, as well as the document, press Alt + F4.
You may be asked if you want to save the document. Tab to the Save button or the Don’t Save button and press Enter.
Note that each document you open is a separate instance of the Word app. So you need to close all your documents to completely close Word.
