To set Date format, select the cells and press Control + #
You may not need this shortcut so much though, because Excel will automatically detect a date when input. For example, on our setup here, if we enter 6/2, Excel will convert that to 06-Feb-23. The format of the date is controlled in the Region settings.
As mentioned before, Screen Reader users can get format details for a cell by pressing the Screen Reader key + F.
Interestingly, Excel stores dates as integers representing the number of days since January 1, 1900, which is stored as number 1, to December 31, 9999 stored as 2958465. So today isĀ 44,963! This is how Excel can then perform calculations on dates.
