If you want to record the appearance of the screen or the details of an error message, it is possible to take a picture of what is displayed. The image can then be sent to another person or saved onto the computer for reference.
The whole screen can be taken or just the active window. It takes a copy of the display and puts it on the “clipboard” ready to be pasted into a document or email.
There is a specific key on the keyboard called the Print Screen key, usually shortened to Prt Scr. It is positioned to the top right of the keyboard. It is usually above the Insert key on a standard desktop keyboard layout. The position varies on laptop keyboards.
When the Print Screen key is pressed, a screenshot is taken and placed on the clipboard.
To take a picture of the entire screen, just press the Prt Scr key, then open a blank document and press Control + V to paste.
To take a picture of the active window, press Alt + Prt Scr, open a blank document and press Control + V to paste.
