Occasionally, a problem may arise where the computer freezes or ceases to respond to the mouse or to the keyboard. In this case, it may be necessary to force the computer to end the task it is engaged in.
But first try these steps:
- Try pressing Alt + Tab a couple of times to refocus the application.
- Press the Escape key to try and exit any dialogues that may be waiting for a response.
- Try closing the application by pressing Alt + F4.
If there is still no response, press the key combination Control + Alt + Delete, arrow down to the Task Manager and press Enter.
Task Manager gives different information about what is happening on the computer. It lists the processes and programs that are running and the current usage of the processor and memory in real time.
To Close a Non Responding Program:
- Press the key combination Control + Alt + Delete, arrow down to the Task Manager and press Enter.
On the Applications (or Processes) tab, all the current running programs are listed. Press Control + Tab to move to the Application (or Processes) tab if needed.
Tab to the list of programs and arrow down to the program that is not responding.
Tab to the End Now (or End Task) button and press the Spacebar.
A dialogue box may appear asking if you are sure that you want to end the program. Press Enter on the End Now button.
